Training on Recent Laws Conducted for Prosecutors in Himachal

Dharamshala: A two day workshop was organized by the Himachal Pradesh Prosecution Department in Dharamshala to acquaint prosecutors with new laws.
It concluded on late Sunday. The conclusion of the workshop witnessed prosecutors from Chamba, Kangra, Una, and other districts deliberating on the implications of recent legal reforms.
Joint Director (Northern Region) Sanjeev Katoch, led this workshop that witnessed active participation of approximately 40 prosecutors from Chamba, Kangra, Una, and other areas.
“Himachal Pradesh government has formed a steering committee chaired by the Chief Secretary. It was decided in the committee that individuals involved in the criminal justice system, including judges and police personnel, will receive training on the implementation of new laws. This initiative aims to expedite the delivery of justice without unnecessary delays” said Joint Director Sanjeev Katoch.
It is noteworthy that the Indian government recently decided to replace three major laws—Indian Penal Code, Code of Criminal Procedure, and Indian Evidence Act 1872—with the Indian Security Act, Indian Justice Act, and Indian Evidence Act 2023, respectively, after repealing the laws inherited from the British era.
These new laws are set to be enforced nationwide from July 1. A senior police officer Veer Bahadur was also present at the workshop.
The course director of the workshop, Deputy District Prosecutor Anil Sharma, mentioned that similar workshops are planned in Mandi after Dharamshala. The aim is to ensure that prosecutors across the state are well-versed with the new legal framework, enabling them to effectively discharge their duties in the dispensation of justice.
