MANDI: The Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MORTH) has initiated the development and reconstruction of NH-70, a crucial highway linking Mandi to Kotli, Dharampur and Hamirpur in Himachal Pradesh.
As part of this endeavour, the NH-70 is set to intersect with NH-21 (now NH-154) near Pulghrat, just outside Mandi city. This strategic junction, poised to connect two vital national highways, requires meticulous construction work by GAWAR, commissioned through MORTH.
In light of this, the district administration, in collaboration with Mandi police, announced a scheduled traffic blockade on NH-21, effective from April 23. Commencing at midnight and lasting until 5 am for five consecutive days, the blockade aims to facilitate construction activities at the junction. During this period, traffic will be diverted through alternative routes to minimise disruptions for commuters.
Following the initial blockade, one-way traffic management will be implemented on NH-21 for the subsequent five-six days, ensuring a smooth flow of vehicles amidst ongoing construction efforts. As progress is made on NH-70, the need for blockades or one-way traffic arrangements on NH-21 will diminish.
To assist commuters during this period, the Mandi police have advised multi-axle heavy vehicle operators to plan their routes accordingly. Specifically, operators of multi-axle Volvo buses and trucks are urged to schedule their travels outside the specified blockade hours, thereby avoiding any inconvenience.
