Lahaul-Spiti | TNR
Tourists will now have to pay tax to visit Lahaul-Spiti. The tax has been justified on the basis of providing better facilities for tourists visiting the area.
A barrier has been set up under the Special Area Development Authority (SADA), at the entry point of Lahaul, that is, the north portal of Atal tunnel.
The area has turned into a popular tourist destination since the construction of the Atal tunnel in Rohtang.
Tax break-up
Two-wheelers entering Lahaul from Manali via the south portal will be taxed Rs 50, cars will be taxed Rs 200, SUVs and MUVs will be taxed Rs 300 while buses and trucks will have to pay Rs 500.
Giving details of the barrier that has been set up at the north portal under the SADA, Priya Nagta, SDM Keylong, said that the amount collected as tax will be spent on the development of the area.
