Hamirpur: The Himachal Pradesh Technical University’s (HPTU) annual sports competition concluded at Minerva College of Pharmacy in Indora (Kangra) with a vibrant awards ceremony, honouring top athletes from across Himachal Pradesh.
The event saw the presence of distinguished guests, with Prof Jaidev, Dean Academics and Chairman of the Tournament Organising Committee, gracing the occasion as the chief guest. Special attendees included Indora tehsildar Amandeep Singh, Minerva Group Chairman Engineer JS Patial, Lt Col AK Khajuria and other esteemed dignitaries.
Over 800 participants from 18 colleges showcased their skills across various sports over the three-day event, culminating in an award ceremony to honour the outstanding athletes with medals and trophies.
In the men’s chess category, Nitesh from GHEC Bilaspur clinched the gold, Om Diod from GDC Rakkad took silver and Abhishek from Minerva College of Pharmacy claimed bronze. Ritika of JNJEC-Sundernagar won gold in the women’s chess category, followed by Nidhi Walia from GDC Dharamshala with silver and Kishita Verma from HPTU-Hamirpur with bronze.
In men’s carrom, Vishal Sharma of GPC-Rohru won gold, Prince Negi of Kotla won silver and Dishank from Minerva College of Pharmacy shared the podium with silver. Men’s table tennis saw Saurav of HIET-Shahpur winning gold, Shaurya Chandel from Nagrota Bagwan securing silver and Dishank from Minerva College achieving bronze. Saba from Gautam College-Hamirpur took gold in the women’s table tennis, followed by Payal of MGGEC-Kotla with silver and Nandini of GPC-Nagrota Bagwan with bronze.
Badminton winners in the men’s singles included Piyush from University of Studies Hamirpur (gold), Paras from Green Hills (silver) and Akarsh from IGGEC-Kangra (bronze). In the women’s singles, Riya Parmar from GDC-Dharamshala won gold, Priyanka from GVT Pharmacy College in Nagrota Bagwan took silver and Samridhi from Rakkad won bronze.
Kabaddi contests saw ABVGIT-Pragatinagar (Shimla) emerge victorious in the men’s category by defeating the University School of Studies-Hamirpur. In the women’s kabaddi, Kotla’s team overcame Kangra in the finals, securing a 27-18 win.
In cricket, Minerva College of Pharmacy defeated GPC-Rohru to clinch the title, while Solan secured third place. Women’s handball saw Hamirpur emerging victorious over Kangra and women’s volleyball ended with Solan’s team defeating Nagarota Bagwan in a thrilling final.
The overall winner trophy went to Mahatma Gandhi Government Engineering College, Kotla, marking an impressive end to the three-day sports extravaganza that celebrated athleticism and camaraderie across Himachal Pradesh.
