MANDI: In a significant development, disqualified Congress MLA from Sujanpur Rajinder Rana has confirmed that all the six party rebels as well as the three Independent legislators from Himachal Pradesh would be joining the BJP very soon.
Speaking exclusively to TNR on Thursday (March 21, 2024), Rana revealed that a meeting regarding their formal induction into the BJP was underway at the party’s headquarters in New Delhi and the process could be finalised any time during the day.
Rana levelled accusations against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, alleging that adverse circumstances orchestrated by him led to the departure of the six rebel legislators from the Congress. He criticised the Chief Minister’s leadership style, stating that elected members were insulted and subjected to lengthy waiting time outside his office for official work in their constituencies.
Highlighting unfulfilled pre-election promises and perceived favouritism towards certain party members, Rana emphasised the growing discontent among the public and within the Congress. He pointed out the refusal of Congress state president Pratibha Singh to contest elections from her Mandi seat due to the government’s “poor performance”.
Expressing solidarity with his fellow rebels, Rana underscored their commitment to serve the people and uphold their self-respect, vowing to continue their fight despite the criticism from the Chief Minister. Responding to reports of internal discord within the BJP following their likely joining, Rana maintained that he had no such knowledge and suggested that individual perspectives within the party varied.
Addressing concerns about personal safety, Rana disclosed that he and his son had received threatening letters and calls, which he promptly reported to the authorities concerned, though he remained uncertain about the Chief Minister’s involvement. He attributed the recent smear campaign against them to vested interests and affirmed their resolve to persevere in their political endeavors.
