Messaging app Telegram Founder Pavel Durov has revealed that the platform added over 70 million new users during Monday’s Facebook outage. “I am proud of how our team handled the unprecedented growth,” Durov wrote on his Telegram channel.
He welcomed the new users to the platform and said, “We won’t fail you when others will.”
However, Facebook clarified that “there was no malicious activity behind” a faulty configuration change that led to nearly six-hour-long service outage of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram on Monday.
“We also have no evidence that user data was compromised as a result of this downtime,” Facebook said. A post claiming “Facebook.com is for sale” went viral shortly after the outage.
