Device to conduct biological experiments in outer space made: IISc

ISRO and IISc, Bengaluru, researchers have developed a modular, self-contained device to cultivate microorganisms to enable scientists to carry out biological experiments in outer space. It uses an LED and photodiode sensor combination to track bacterial growth and has separate compartments or ‘cassettes’ for different experiments. Data from each cassette is collected and stored independently.

UK-based Liverpool Hope University’s scientists have created a device that can prevent cyberattacks from malicious USB drives. The ‘external scanning device’ sits between the USB drive and the laptop or computer. It is capable of scanning the drive for malicious software and potentially stopping a cyberattack in its tracks. The device has been granted a patent by the Indian government.

Blue Origin’s case against US govt delayed over numbering of pages

Blue Origin’s lawsuit against US government has been delayed again as Department of Justice sought an extension to file “extremely voluminous” case documents. “The process of applying page numbering to each page of the record is taking longer than anticipated,” the DOJ said. Blue Origin sued US government over NASA’s decision to award a $2.9-billion lunar lander contract to SpaceX.’

Dyson working on robots that can clean stairs, open drawers: Report

Dyson is working on designs for robots that can climb and clean stairs as per reports. Citing patents filed with UK’s Intellectual Property Office, it said the designs also reveal a device with robotic arms capable of simultaneously holding cups and opening drawers. Dyson has been working on developing a robot that can interact with home appliances.
