
PUBG creator Brendan Greene leaves KRAFTON to form new studio
Brendan Greene, creator of popular game PUBG: Battlegrounds, is leaving South Korean video game holding company KRAFTON to form his own independent studio called PlayerUnknown Productions. The studio has spun out of KRAFTON and the latter will continue to hold a minority stake in the new venture. Greene is often referred to as the father of the battle royale genre.
US-based Firefly’s 1st-ever orbital rocket explodes after launch
US start-up Firefly Aerospace launched its first-ever orbital rocket, Alpha, on September 2 but the vehicle suffered an issue a couple of minutes into the ascent and exploded in the sky. “Alpha experienced an anomaly during the first stage ascent that resulted in the loss of the vehicle,” the start-up said. The mission carried a number of payloads.
Apple must face claim that Siri violates privacy, rules US judge
A US judge has ruled that Apple must face a lawsuit claiming its voice assistant, Siri, violates the privacy of users. The lawsuit alleges that users’ privacy was violated by “accidental activations” when the user neither intends nor expects Siri to be “listening” and recording voice conversations.
WhatsApp fined €225 million for privacy breaches in largest fine by Irish regulator
WhatsApp was fined a record €225 million (over ₹1,948 crore) in the largest fine ever from the Irish Data Protection Commission for breaching privacy regulations. The fine was imposed following an inquiry into WhatsApp’s transparency around sharing personal data with other Facebook companies.
