Dharamshala: Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu made a triumphant return after a period of illness, marking his first of its kind robust public appearance. Addressing a spirited rally on Monday here, he not only spoke passionately about his political vision but also underscored the distinctive nature of his governance.
In a resounding declaration, the Chief Minister stated, “I earned this position through 40 years of dedicated service to the party. Now that I have this opportunity, I am determined not to lead a routine government.” This proclamation infused Congress workers with great enthusiasm and zeal.
Amidst the cheers and whistles, Sukhu proceeded to outline his challenges and achievements on a month-by-month basis. He disclosed that in January, they uncovered a staggering 14,000 crore loan taken by the BJP for the financial year 2022-23, allegedly for election purposes.
“My goal is to reach the poorest of the poor, as I come from a non-political family background. We took the oath in December, expanded the cabinet, and in the first cabinet meeting, we decided on the Old Pension Scheme (OPS). This decision could have been delayed, but we are committed to it, and it is not for any political gain,” Sukhu asserted.
Moving into February, he addressed corruption allegations in the subordinate selection board and subsequently dissolved the board. March brought the budget session, but financial constraints loomed large. Sukhu added, “My colleague Mukesh Agnihotri presented a white paper in the assembly, revealing that each of you carries a loan of more than one lakh rupees.”
Sukhu highlighted his efforts to overhaul the decades-old system of rest houses, emphasizing that everyone now pays the same amount in government properties comparison to MLAs.
“I worked until 2:00 AM with my cabinet colleagues to transform a system entrenched for 40 years, ensuring it serves the welfare of the common people. Our goal is to make Himachal ‘Atannirbhar,’” he declared.
Addressing the pressing challenge of disasters, Sukhu accused the BJP of betrayal. “While my team was on the ground, the BJP failed to deliver on its promises during the special session they requested. The BJP did nothing for the welfare of the state,” Sukhu lamented.
The Chief Minister concluded his speech by pledging to make Himachal prosperous by 2027, aiming for it to become the wealthiest state in the country by 2034.
