Says BJP candidate’s phone, Dharamshala palace’s gate remained out of bounds for commoners
Dharamshala: Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu attended a programme organised by the Himachal-Punjab Gorkha Association in Dharamshala on Friday (May 24, 2024). Without directly naming BJP Assembly bypoll candidate and Congress turncoat Sudhir Sharma, Sukhu alleged that the former MLA had isolated himself from the Dharamshala constituency for 15 months, keeping his mobile phone and the doors of his palace closed to the public.
Sukhu described the imposing gate outside the former MLA’s palace, suggesting “it was so intimidating that ordinary citizens were afraid to approach”. He implied that those who were not part of the former MLA’s inner circle or party had little chance of being heard. “The former MLA showed no concern for the common man and was driven solely by greed for money. Such individuals are detrimental to politics too,” he said.
Rs 10 crore investment in Dharamshala?
The Chief Minister further alleged that the former MLA had acquired 82 properties worth over Rs 10 crore in Dharamshala and surrounding areas in his driver Nekram’s name, suggesting these were bought with black money. He accused the BJP candidate of being part of a land mafia and betraying the trust of the people of Dharamshala in his pursuit of wealth. “BJP candidates are functioning as property dealers with no genuine interest in public service,” he said.
Sukhu also claimed that the former MLA conspired with the BJP to destabilise a democratically elected government and travelled to Haryana to secure the second installment of the deal. He urged the public to teach a lesson to those who betrayed public trust by voting for Congress candidate Devendra Singh Jaggi on June 1.
CM calls Jaggi, Anand Sharma honest men
Highlighting the credentials of Devendra Jaggi, Sukhu emphasised his honest image and deep understanding of the common man’s struggles. He urged Dharamshala voters to ensure Jaggi’s victory by turning out in large numbers. Sukhu also mentioned veteran leader Anand Sharma as the Congress candidate for the Kangra Lok Sabha seat, praising Sharma’s ability to amplify the voice of the Kangra constituency in the Parliament.
Reflecting on his government’s achievements, Sukhu noted that the Congress government had reinstated the old pension scheme for government employees within 15 months of taking office. He detailed welfare initiatives such as providing Rs 1,500 per month to women, free education for widows’ children up to the age of 27, and financial assistance of Rs 3 lakh for widows to build homes. “The Congress government has implemented welfare schemes to ensure no section of society is left deprived,” he said.
Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Sukhu received blessings from the Buddhist religious leader Dalai Lama at his residence in McLeodganj.
The event was attended by Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation chairman Raghuveer Singh Bali, Congress candidate Jaggi, officials and members of the Gorkha Association and a large number of local residents.
