Furious over the closure of the British era State Library located on the Ridge, students and regular readers using the library staged a protest on the spot. The idea of setting up a book cafe by the Shimla Municipal corporation in its place has not been welcome by regular users.

Students and readers hence stood in solidarity and warned that they would gherao the Chief Minister and Shimla Mayor Satya Kaundal if the decision was not repealed.
