Palampur: The auspicious commencement of the four-day state-level Holi festival took place alongside a grand procession.
The procession, starting from the district administration rest house to Gandhi Maidan, saw the participation of additional deputy commissioner Saurav Jassal, SDM, and chairman of the Holi Fair Committee, Netra Mehta, commissioner of the Municipal Corporation Ashish Sharma, DSP Lokinder Negi, tehsildar Sajan Bagga, along with members of the fair committee and individuals from the community.
The additional deputy commissioner extended Holi greetings to the attendees and highlighted the longstanding tradition of the Holi festival in Palampur, renowned across Northern India. He emphasized that Holi in Palampur is celebrated as a festival and holds significance in people’s faith, with active participation from all. He appealed to voters to actively participate in the festival of democracy by casting their votes.
Subsequently, he inaugurated the Holi wrestling competition, organized at Gandhi Maidan, Palampur, with full rituals and procedures. He mentioned that wrestlers from all northern states have been invited to participate in this competition organized by the Holi Fair Committee, including a women’s wrestling match, making the event more appealing and offering spectators a delightful display.
