F1 champ Hamilton survives after car lands on his head in crash during Grand Prix
Seven-time Formula One world champion Lewis Hamilton survived after rival Max Verstappen’s car crashed into the former’s and landed on his head during the Italian Grand Prix. Hamilton issued a statement after the crash and said, “It’s days like today, I am reminded of how lucky I am…My neck’s a bit sore…I have one big headache but I’m doing okay!”
Sri Lanka announce their squad for T20 WC, include 21-yr-old mystery spinner Theekshana
Sri Lanka have announced their 15-member squad for T20 World Cup 2021. Dasun Shanaka will lead the side, while Dhananjaya De Silva will be the vice-captain. The squad includes 21-year-old mystery spinner Mahesh Theekshana, who has played one T20I and one ODI so far. Slow left-arm spinner Praveen Jayawickrama, who is yet to play a T20I, has also been included.
22-year-old Indian racing driver Jehan Daruvala wins 2nd Formula 2 race of his career
India’s 22-year-old racing driver Jehan Daruvala won the second Sprint Race of the FIA Formula 2 championship in Monza on Saturday. It is Jehan’s second Formula 2 race win of his career and first of this season. He had become the first Indian to win a Formula 2 race during the Sakhir Grand Prix in December last year.
Daniil Medvedev wins US Open to end Novak Djokovic Calendar Grand Slam bid
World number two Daniil Medvedev defeated world number one Novak Djokovic 6-4, 6-4, 6-4 in the US Open 2021 men’s singles final to win his first-ever Grand Slam title.
Medvedev fell on the hardcourt and did the ‘dead fish’ celebration just after beating world number one Novak Djokovic in the US Open final. During the awards ceremony, he said, “Only legends will understand, but my celebration was L2 + Left.” Notably, L2 + Left are controls for “dead fish” celebration on FIFA video game. With this win, the Russian tennis player ended Novak Djokovic’s dream to win a calendar slam this year.
England players likely to miss IPL knockouts due to Pakistan T20Is
England players, who have been selected in their 15-member squad for the upcoming T20 World Cup, are likely to miss the knockout matches of the IPL 2021 due to England’s tour of Pakistan. England are to play two T20Is in Pakistan on October 14 and 15, clashing with the IPL’s playoffs which begin on October 10 with Qualifier 1.
