Murray knocked out of US Open for 1st time after near 5-hour 1st round defeat

World number three Stefanos Tsitsipas defeated former world number one Andy Murray in four hours and 49 minutes in the US Open first round. Tsitsipas won the match with a score-line of 2-6, 7-6(7), 3-6, 6-3, 6-4. It is the first time in 15 appearances that Murray suffered defeat in the opening round at the US Open.

Ex-India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar has condoled the demise of mentor Vasudev Paranjape, who coached several Indian cricketers including Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar and Rohit Sharma. “I’ve always known him as one of the best coaches I worked with, he has been an integral part of my cricketing journey…I feel that a piece of me has left the world,” Tendulkar tweeted.

Paralympics gold medallist Sumit Antil to be awarded ₹6 crore, job by Haryana government

Haryana government has said that it will give ₹6 crore reward and a government job to para javelin thrower Sumit Antil, who broke the world record thrice and won a gold medal at the Tokyo Paralympics on Monday. Silver medalist discus thrower Yogesh Kathuniya will be given ₹4 crore and a government job, the Haryana government has said.

Shooter Singhraj wins bronze, India extend their best medal tally at Paralympics to 8

Shooter Singhraj won a bronze medal at the Tokyo Paralympics on Tuesday in the P1 – Men’s 10m Air Pistol SH1 event. The 39-year-old shot a score of 216.8 to finish third in the event. With this, India have now won record eight medals at Tokyo Paralympics, four more than their previous best tally achieved in 1984 and 2016 Paralympics.
