Sumit Antil won javelin gold medal with a world record throw of 68.55 and won India’s second gold medal in parlaympics 2020. Sumit, who broke the world record with a 66.95m throw in his first attempt, bettered it to 68.08 in his second and then touched 68.85 in his fifth attempt. Sandeep Chaudhary finished fourth in the event, with a best throw of 62.20m.

India have lost one medal at Tokyo Paralympics after discus thrower Vinod Kumar was declared ineligible for men’s F-52 discus throw event. Vinod had set an Asian record with throw of 19.91 metres to win bronze, however, it was put on hold on Sunday following protest over his disability classification.
Elated to win Paralympic bronze after 2016 Rio disqualification: Sundar
India’s Sundar Singh Gurjar, who won a bronze medal in javelin throw at Tokyo Paralympics, said he is “elated” to win the medal after disqualification in 2016 Rio Paralympics. “I want to thank my coach Mahaveer Saini who trained me from 2009 to 2021,” he added. Sundar threw 64.01m, his season-best, to finish third at the podium.
