The speeding BMW car that killed a motorcyclist and injured two others in Punjab’s Mohali is registered in Himachal Pradesh. The luxury BMW car was involved in the accident late Tuesday (May 28, 2024) night, leaving a migrant, Sahib of Moradabad in Uttar Pradesh, dead. The injured have been identified as Pabhat residents Sumit and Rajvir. The car driver fled the spot, leaving the vehicle behind.
According to information, the speeding BMW car (HP84-0002) hit the motorcycle at Lohgarh light point in Zirakpur around 11 pm. Investigations by The Newz Radar revealed that the car was registered in the name of Prateek Sharma on August 3, 2020, at the Regional Transport Office in Sujanpur, a town in Hamirpur district of Himachal Pradesh.
The BMW belongs to the high-end X3 XDRIVE20D Luxury Line segment. The car is a diesel variant in the X3 lineup and is priced at Rs 67.30 lakh.
Eyewitnesses said the BMW was coming from Patiala side and hit the trio on the bike while they were turning towards Pabhat side. The brother of one of the victims, Gursewak, said as the car hit the youths, the bike was flung into the air and it hit a truck.
The airbags of the car were deflated after the impact, while the bike was badly damaged. The trio were rushed to a private hospital in Zirakpur where doctors declared driver Sahib dead. The police have been investigating the matter.
The BMW accident occurred days after a drunk Porsche teen driver in Pune killed two 24-year-old techies from Madhya Pradesh after his luxury car, being driven at 200 kmph, hit their motorcycle.
