The Newz Radar

Dharamshala: A special campaign will be conducted until May 4 to register the names of missing female voters and persons with disabilities in the electoral rolls for the Lok Sabha elections, 2024.

Providing this information, District Election Officer Hemraj Bairwa stated that effective steps will be taken with the cooperation of booth-level officials, anganwadi workers, women’s groups, and self-help groups to register the names of missing female voters in the voter list to address the gender imbalance in voters.

He mentioned that in Kangra district, the number of male voters is 6,54,626, while the number of female voters is 6,43,862, indicating that the number of women is higher than men according to the census. Bairwa pointed out that some female voters’ names are not registered in the voter list before marriage, while some names are delayed from being registered in the voter list after marriage, causing eligible female voters to miss being registered in the voter list.

Under the sweep programme, a special campaign will be launched through booth-level officials, self-help groups, and women’s groups to register the names of eligible women in the voter list to ensure that no one is deprived of voting. Additionally, efforts will be made to ensure the registration of eligible disabled citizens in the respective polling areas, and special camps will be organized with the assistance of registration officers. Facilities such as ramps, wheelchairs, transportation to and from the polling station, and home voting facilities will also be provided at the polling centers, along with the provision of voter assistance booths and voter companions.
