MANDI: Himachal Pradesh Congress spokesperson and APMC Chairman Sanjeev Guleria has asserted that it’s natural for some individuals to express dissatisfaction with the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government as their vested interests had been affected.
“These individuals had established their interests before the formation of the Sukhu government and had preconceived plans upon its inception,” Guleria said in an interview with The Newz Radar, targeting the leaders who have been occasionally attacking CM Sukhu and the government’s policies.
He said that Chief Minister Sukhu implemented such changes that prevented any “political influence from prevailing”. He emphasised that under the current system, which focuses on transparency and the eradication of corruption, those who engage in unethical practices find themselves discontented.
Guleria claimed that aside from these dissenters, the general public is content with the Sukhu government and its reformed approach. He lauded the Chief Minister’s response to the recent rain disaster that hit Himachal, noting the prompt and effective actions taken, which have garnered national recognition. He highlighted the government’s expedited process for disaster relief distribution, a marked improvement from previous administrations.
When pressed about allegations of irregularities in relief distribution, Guleria could not provide a satisfactory response, asserting his lack of information on the matter. He reiterated the Chief Minister’s commitment to zero tolerance for corruption, promising repercussions for any implicated individuals.
Regarding statements made by Rajinder Rana and Sudhir Sharma, Guleria suggested that they were intended as constructive criticism rather than outright opposition. He emphasised that decisions regarding government positions are made by the party’s high command, and individuals should not be disheartened if not immediately appointed.
Guleria dismissed claims of factionalism within the Congress, asserting that such notions are propagated by individuals outside the organisational structure. He emphasised the absence of factionalism and highlighted the inclusive nature of the party.
In addressing his opponents, Guleria emphasised his longstanding relationship with Chief Minister Sukhvinder Sukhu, dating back to their college days. He expressed gratitude for the Chief Minister’s trust and the opportunities afforded to him within the party.
Looking ahead to the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, Guleria expressed optimism for strong leadership in Mandi and anticipated greater responsibilities for senior leaders within the government. He affirmed the Chief Minister’s commitment to recognising and empowering qualified individuals within the organisation and the government.
