Residents to get inverters too, first lot reaches Baijnath

Dharamshala | TNR
Homes in Bada Bhangal, a remote village in Baijnath assembly constituency of Kangra district, would be “lit up” with the help of solar power.
Situated at a height of 14000 feet above sea level, the village, with a population of 600, had hit the headlines recently due to hoisting of the National Flag the first time after Independence.
Deprived of electricity for decades
Having remained dependent on oil lamps for decades, the residents of this village would get the gift of a Rs 65 lakh solar power project sanctioned by Kangra district collector Dr. Nipun Jindal. The first lot of solar panels and inverters have reached Baijnath and preparations are afoot to get them over to Bada Bhangal.
How it happened
Dr Jindal informed that he had led a team of the health department to the village on a helicopter. Out there he was told about the difficulties faced by residents due to lack of power supply. The solar power project was forwarded to the government and it was sanctioned immediately, he added.
He said that the invertors being provided for the first time would ensure power during the nights too. Earlier, in the absence of storage for solar power, the residents did not get light all the time.
Chamba district collector urged for road connection
Dr Jindal said that the Chamba district collect has been urged to complete the road construction from Chamba side.
BSNL telephone service
Attempts are also on to provide the residents of the village BSNL telephony services because currently, they are dependent solely on satellite phone service of Airtel company which proves costly to the residents.
