Dharamshala: Despite the chilly weather on Saturday, the atmosphere inside the Kangra District Council meeting remained heated as discussions revolved around solar lights, fund shifting, and the renovation of the district council auditorium. During the meeting, concerns were raised about the installation of solar lights, with councilors questioning the delay despite numerous applications. A representative from Himurja informed that 3949 solar lights have been installed, while 384 lights remain unidentified, leading to further objections from council members.
The issue of funds being shifted from one panchayat to another for solar lights distribution also sparked controversy. Allegations of mismanagement were directed towards the district council office, prompting demands for a thorough investigation. The council suggested streamlining the identification process and establishing a helpline number at the district level for citizens to register complaints.
Discontent also surfaced regarding the stamp duty increase and the expenditure on the renovation of the district council auditorium. Council members questioned the reported expenditure of over 30 lakh rupees, including the installation of 11 tons of iron and seven lakh rupees on tiles. Calls were made for a vigilance inquiry to ensure transparency in spending. As tensions rose, some members threatened to boycott future meetings if office staff appointments were not rectified before the next session. The Assistant District Commissioner assured a preliminary meeting to address these concerns.
