In a significant judgment, the court of Solan Special Judge Arvind Malhotra has sentenced 15-year rigorous imprisonment to a man after convicting him in a case involving the possession of banned medicines.
The convict, Ravindra Singh, has also been slapped a fine of Rs 1.50 lakh, the failure to pay which will invite an additional imprisonment of one year.
The prosecution, represented by District Attorney Sanjay Pandit, successfully argued the case, presenting compelling evidence and witness testimonies. The conviction follows an incident dating back to the evening of March 17, 2018, when Solan police station in-charge Naveen Jhalta, along with his team, was on patrol duty on Jaunaji Road near Shaktinagar.
During the patrol, the police received a tip-off about Ravindra’s involvement in the illegal sale of banned cough syrups. Acting swiftly on this information, the police raided his residence and found 31 vials of the illicit substance hidden inside a washing machine.
The trial saw the examination of 13 witnesses by the prosecution, which built a robust case leading to Ravindra’s conviction. Judge Arvind Malhotra, in his ruling, emphasised the severity of the crime and the importance of curbing the illegal sale of banned drugs to protect the youth from drug addiction.
The sentencing of Ravindra underscored the judiciary’s commitment to stringent action against illegal drug trade and should serve as a stern warning to those involved in similar unlawful practices, said District Attorney Sanjay Pandit while talking to the media.
