Shimla: The much-awaited snowfall in Himachal Pradesh was finally witnessed in the state’s higher reaches late at night on January 25 and early morning on January 26.
Snowfall was witnessed on the peaks in Bharmour and Dalhousie towns of Chamba district, Manali, and near Atal Tunnel and Lahaul Spiti.
In Bharmour 2.5 cm of snowfall was recorded, and 0.2 cm in Kukumseri till Friday morning. The area around the Atal Tunnel turned white by Friday morning. Light snowfall was recorded in the upper areas of Manali.
The meteorological department has forecast light snowfall and rain in upper areas of the state till January 29 and even in other places on January 30 and 31.
The minimum temperature in Sundernagar was 5.1 degrees C, Mandi 4.9 degrees C, Reckong Peo 0.3 degrees C, Narkanda minus 1.2 degrees C, Kalpa minus 2.5 degrees C, Kukumseri 4.9 degrees C, Samdho minus 4.4 degrees C, Bhuntar 4.4 degrees C, Una 4.8 degrees C, Shimla 3.4 degrees C, and Dharamshala 6.2 degrees C.
The maximum temperature in Una was 16.6 degrees C (3.8 degrees C below normal), 16.8 degrees C in Nahan (1 degree less than normal), 13 degrees C in Shimla, 19.3 degrees C in Sundernagar, 18.5 degrees C in Bhuntar, 8.8 degrees C in Kalpa, 17 degrees C in Dharamshala, 18.8 degrees C in Solan, 17.8 degrees C in Mandi, 7.4 degrees C in Kufri, 7.8 degrees C in Narkanda, 6.4 degrees C in Kukumseri, 12.1 degrees C in Reckong Peo, and 6.6 degrees C in Samdho.
