Snow likely in parts of Himachal over next 2 days, yellow alert for fog in seven districts

SHIMLA: With a fresh western disturbance getting active over the northern region, a cold wave has gripped Himachal Pradesh, leading to cloudy skies and the weatherman predicting snow and rain in parts of the hill state on December 30 and 31 (2023).

According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, adverse weather conditions are expected to persist for the next two days and may even extend to January 1
Over the past 24 hours, Shimla experienced a maximum temperature of 15 degrees Celsius, while Bhuntar recorded 19.3 degrees, Kalpa 13.7 degrees, Dharamshala 21 degrees, Una 24 degrees and Keylong 8.8 degrees Celsius. Dalhousie registered a maximum temperature of 17.5 degrees Celsius with it was 12.5 degrees Celsius in Samdho.

Simultaneously, a decrease has been observed in the minimum temperatures across the state. Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 4.8 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar 0.7 degrees and Kalpa -1 degrees. Dharamshala experienced a minimum of 7.2 degrees Celsius, Una 4.6 degrees Celsius and Dalhousie 5.2 degrees Celsius. Kukumseri recorded the lowest minimum temperature of -8.9 degrees Celsius.

The Meteorological Centre has predicted turbulent weather over the next 48 hours, with the likelihood of sporadic light rain and snowfall in parts of the state. A two-day yellow alert for moderate to dense fog during morning hours has been issued for isolated pockets in the districts of Mandi, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Una, Kangra, Sirmaur (Paonta Sahib and Dhola Kuan) and Solan (Baddi and Nalagarh).
Meanwhile, the flights to popular tourist destinations of Shimla, Kullu and Dharamshala were either delayed or cancelled due to dense fog in Delhi and Chandigarh.
