The possibility of implementing the National Education Policy-2020 from this session in the colleges affiliated with Himachal Pradesh University (HPU) and Sardar Patel University (SPU), which are conducting graduate degree courses in the state, is now negligible.
The Himachal Education Department has fixed the admission schedule in the colleges on the basis of the proposals for admission and academic schedule from both universities, but so far there is no preparation regarding the new education policy.
About 200 colleges affiliated with HPU Shimla and SPU Mandi have not yet received any orders from the department and universities to implement the National Education Policy from the new session and to conduct the admission process accordingly. All the colleges have prepared their prospectus to conduct the admission process in the new session according to the old UG first-year syllabus on the lines of the previous session.
As per the ongoing admission schedule of UG, now hardly a month is left for the admission process starting from June 30. There is no time left to prepare for the implementation of the National Education Policy and prepare the necessary syllabus for it, get it approved, and get the ordinance approved by the EC.
Shimla will have summer vacations in colleges from June 5 to 29. There will be summer vacation for teachers in both HPU and SPU universities from June 5 to 29.
Consensus on the implementation of the new policy was not reached on April 7 in Shimla at the HPU’s EC meeting. It was decided to take a decision only after providing facilities as per the policy in the colleges.
University Dean of Studies, Prof BK Shivram, said that according to the orders of the government, the rest of the process will be completed.
