Six newly elected Himachal MLAs sworn-in after byelection victory, 3 are first-timers

Six newly elected Himachal Pradesh MLAs were administered the oath of office and secrecy by Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania at the Vidhan Sabha in Shimla on Wednesday (June 12, 2024), marking the formal commencement of their legislative responsibilities.

Four MLAs from the Congress and two from the BJP took the solemn oath, signifying their commitment to serve the people of the state. Among the Congress MLAs were Rakesh Kalia from Gagret, Vivek Sharma from Kutlehar, Anuradha Rana from Lahaul-Spiti and Captain Ranjit Rana from Sujanpur. The BJP MLAs sworn in were Sudhir Sharma from Dharamshala and Inder Dutt Lakhanpal from Barsar.

Of notable mention is the inclusion of Vivek Sharma, Anuradha Rana and Captain Ranjit Rana, who have stepped into their roles as Assembly members for the first time, injecting fresh perspectives and energy into the legislative arena.

The swearing-in ceremony, attended by Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, cabinet ministers, MLAs and other dignitaries, underscored the significance of the occasion in shaping the political landscape of Himachal Pradesh.

With the newly elected representatives assuming their duties, expectations are high for them to address the pressing issues facing the state and contribute to its development and welfare.
