The Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra, renowned as the pilgrimage to one of the ‘Panch Kailash’ mountains of Lord Shiva and among the most arduous religious journeys in North India, officially commenced on Sunday (July 14, 2024).
The pilgrimage, set to continue until July 27, was inaugurated with great fervour and devotion. Yatra Trust Chairman and Kullu Deputy Commissioner Torul S Ravish marked the beginning of the yatra by reaching the base camp at Singh Gad late in the evening, following a 3-km walk from Bardangcha.
At the base camp, he participated in the evening Lord Shiva aarti alongside numerous devotees in the pandal of Shrikhand Seva Samiti of Arsu (Rampur) and Hamirpur.
Dignitaries at inaugural ceremony
The inaugural ceremony saw the presence of several dignitaries, including Congress state senior vice-president and founder of Yatra Trust Buddhi Singh Thakur, Kullu zila parishad president Pankaj Parmar, Trust vice-president and Nirmand SDM Manmohan Singh, Nirmand Tehsildar Jaigopal Sharma, DSP Chandra Shekhar Kayath, Trust Member Govind Sharma and zila parishad member Poorna Thakur. The Kullu DC formally inaugurated the langar, serving delicious food to the devotees with his own hands.
First batch dispatched at 5 am
At approximately 5 am, the Kullu DC dispatched the first batch of 70 devotees to the holy abode of Mahadev Shrikhand Kailash Parbat, signaling the start of the pilgrimage.
The DC assured that the administration had made comprehensive arrangements for the travellers. Preparations included readying the road to Shrikhand and ensuring the water system along the way was in optimal condition. Teams from the police, rescue services, State Disaster Response Force, medical personnel and revenue department have been deployed at every base camp to assist pilgrims throughout the journey.
