The Himachal Pradesh Electricity Department has imposed a fine of more than Rs 1 lakh on a resident of Nadaun town in Hamirpur district. The action is part of an ongoing campaign led by the department to curb power theft across the state.
A power department team led by SDO Akshay Kumar raided Ward No. 1 in Nadaun and caught the accused red-handed. The individual had bypassed the official service line of the department by illegally tapping into it, supplying electricity to their home. The department acted swiftly, disconnecting the meter on the site and imposing a penalty of Rs 1,30,377.

The incident follows similar actions earlier in the month. On October 4, the department had penalised two individuals in separate cases, slapping fines of Rs 1.75 lakh and Rs 1 lakh. So far, the department has identified four instances of power theft, with fines imposed in three cases and further action pending in the fourth.
Speaking on the matter, Executive Engineer Karanveer Singh said the electricity theft was uncovered during a routine inspection. “We are committed to taking strict action against those involved in such illegal activities, and penalties will be enforced according to the rules,” he said.
