Shimla among 7 Himachal districts put on heatwave red alert for 24 hours

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Saturday issued a heatwave warning for Sunday (May 18, 2024) in seven districts of Himachal Pradesh, with the likelihood of hot wind blowing in two places.

The alert has been issued for 24 hours in Sirmaur, Bilaspur, Hamirpur, Kangra, Solan, Una and Shimla districts.

In several low-lying areas of Himachal Pradesh, it has become difficult for people to come out of their houses due to the scorching heat. Due to the bright sunshine, the heat in Shimla has also started becoming unbearable. On Saturday, there has been sunshine in most parts of the state.

On Friday, the maximum temperature touched 40 degrees Celsius at four places in the state and it was above 35 degrees Celsius at 10 places. Una, Dharamshala, Shimla and Manali witnessed record high temperature on Friday in three years.

The maximum temperature at Neri in Una and Hamirpur was 43 degrees Celsius while in Bilaspur and Dhaulakuan it was more than 41 degrees. Considering the IMD alert, it is expected the temperature may cross 43 degrees Celsius.

According to the Meteorological Centre, Shimla, the weather may remain as such in some central and high hilly places of the state till May 20. There may also be rain in some plain areas on May 19.

Clear weather is expected in most parts of the state from May 21 to 24. In such a situation, there is a possibility of the temperature rising further.

The minimum temperature in Shimla on Saturday was 19.4 According to Meteorological Center Shimla, the weather may remain bad in some central and high hilly places of the state till May 20.

There may also be rain in some plain areas on May 19. Clear weather is expected in most parts of the state from May 21 to 24. In such a situation, there is a possibility of the temperature rising further.

Minimum temperature in Shimla on Saturday was 19.4 degrees Celsius. In Sundernagar, it was 17.8, Bhuntar 13.2, Kalpa 23, Una 21, Nahan 22.1, Palampur 21, Solan 18, Keylong 5.7, Manali 7.1, Mandi 17.6, Bilaspur 19.6, Hamirpur. 18.4, Chamba 16, Jubbarhatti 21.2, Kufri 16.3 and Narkanda 13.4.
