SHIMLA: Amid the rain devastation, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has set a rare example by donating almost the entire amount that he had in his personal bank accounts for the disaster relief fund that was created in view of the recent rain tragedy.CM Sukhu has donated Rs 51 lakh and he is now left with only Rs 17,000 in his accounts.
The CM’s step is being seen as a noble gesture towards the people of the state who are recovering from the disaster.Chief Minister Sukhu donated Rs 51 lakh from his three personal accounts to the Chief Minister Disaster Relief Fund- 2023.
He along with his wife Kamlesh Thakur gave this cheque to Chief Secretary Prabodh Saxena. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri, Health Minister Dhaniram Shandil, Agriculture Minister Chander Kumar, Education Minister Rohit Thakur and Rural Development Minister Anirudh Singh were also present on the occasion.
The Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister said that at this time of disaster, even small children were breaking their piggy banks and donating to the disaster relief fund. “So in such a situation, I also thought that I should help the state recovering from the disaster,” he said. The Chief Minister said that after checking his three accounts, he donated this amount to the Chief Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund.
Chief Minister Sukhu said that even during the previous Jai Ram government, he had donated his salary during the Covid period.The CM has for long been demanding a special relief packge from the Centre, but to no avail.
