MANDI: Ration distribution at public depots in Himachal Pradesh has come to a standstill as the E-POS machines have stopped functioning. The crisis has erupted due to a server glitch, which has rendered the machines inoperable and paralysed the entire ration distribution system.
“Lakhs of consumers in the state have been facing difficulties in obtaining rations from government depots due to this issue for the past three days. Despite daily visits, consumers are returning empty-handed as ration is not being distributed due to the server error issue,” said a depot holder in Mandi
Poor connectivity in the POS machines is delaying the disbursement of foodgrains to the ration card holders. These machines are digital and meant for maintaining the record of sales in the fair price shops. Consumers are expressing frustration and dissatisfaction with the department’s operational system. People are struggling with their living as they are forced to buy expensive ration outside in emergency. They have urged the government to promptly fix the server issue to alleviate their problem.
Pawan Sharma, District Controller, Food and Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, when contacted, told TNR that efforts were underway to rectify the server issue, and services were expected to resume soon. The online system, which relies on fingerprint scanning through Aadhaar cards, faces challenges due to the server downtime, impacting the distribution of rations. The department has temporarily discontinued offline ration distribution, causing disruptions in the overall system.
