Shimla: The cases of scrub typhus are on the rise in Himachal Pradesh, with 973 individuals testing positive across the state. Tragically, the scrub typhus has claimed the lives of 10 people in the region.
The largest hospital in the state, Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital (IGMC), Shimla, alone has recorded 9 fatalities due to scrub typhus.Dr. Gopal Sharma, a practicing doctor at IGMC Hospital, explained that this disease is transmitted through mite bites and is more prevalent among those who work extensively in grassy areas during the monsoon season.
He further noted that Solan district has reported the highest number of cases, likely due to increased exposure during the rainy season.
Dr. Sharma also revealed that IGMC Hospital alone has seen over 700 cases of scrub typhus, and the disease has unfortunately claimed the lives of more than nine people in the hospital. In total, over 1,000 individuals have tested positive for scrub typhus in various medical facilities across the state.
