Scribe’s Courage Pays: CBI closes in on police exam scam kingpins

Shimla: CBI have registered two FIRs in Himachal police recruitment scam at a time when all the dust of election and blame game in politics had settled.

The journalist who broke this story is feeling content as he says that things may reach its logical conclusion now.

It was on May 17 that Himachal Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur had announced that state government will recommend this case to CBI.

Investigation officials conducting raids in different areas have informed that kingpins in this case were involved in other big scams of the country of same nature of leaking examination papers.

The story was first broken by Sunil Chadha, a senior journalist working with national Hindi daily Amar Ujala. The paper had carried this story on front page after which investigations were started.

“A journalist has to pay a price for breaking such stories, but it sounds good that things are reaching to its logical conclusion. Being a journalist I did it for the betterment of the society at large. I will keep keep the flame alive of fearless journalism,” he said.

Two separate FIRs have been registered by CBI on November 30. One FIR has been registered against two accused – Munish Kumar and Sunil Kumar. Both belong to Kangra district of Himachal Pradesh.

The other case has been registered against – Munish Kumar, Gaurav Kumar and Mani Choudhary, all from district Kangra.

The written examination which was cancelled was conducted again on July 3 amid tight security arrangements. The state police which was investigating this case had charged 181 persons so far.

Two accused have already surrendered at Kangra court this month. CBI had sought records and status report from Himachal Police before registering these FIRs.
