The Yoga Vedanta Seva Samiti has been observing Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas (Parents Worship Day) for the past 17 years, with celebrations extending beyond India to various other countries. In a press conference held on Monday, the secretary of the committee, Pushpendra Singh Guleria, along with other members, announced their demand to also celebrate Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas in Himachal Pradesh on February 14, following the model of Chhattisgarh state. Since 2007, the committee has been commemorating this day, aiming to raise awareness among children by visiting schools.
They emphasized the importance of diverting youth from the commercialized Valentine’s Day celebration, highlighting the significance of honoring parents on February 14 instead. They urged all youngsters to celebrate Matru-Pitru Pujan Diwas as a mark of respect towards their parents, rather than participating in Valentine’s Day festivities.
