MANDI: Rotary Club of Chhoti Kashi Mandi gave away “Nation Builder Award” to 10 government school teachers in recognition of their enormous contribution towards the enhancement of quality education from primary to higher secondary levels.
These teachers were felicitated by the members of the club at a simple function organised at District Institute for Education and Training (DIET) on Thursday (September 14, 2023). A framed certificate was given to each awardee for their tremendous contribution in shaping the young minds.
DIET Principal Balbir Bhardwaj was the chief guest during the function while Dharmender Rana, Rotary coordinator, presided over the function.

The awardees included Rakesh Kumar, lecturer in English and Education; District Coordinator, Research and Education, Bharti Behl, GSSS, Kehanwal; Balbir Singh, DIET, Mandi; Yogesh Kumar Sharma, GMS, Sojha; Nisha Mishra, GSSS, Jai Devi; Manjula Verma, GSSS, Kanaid; Lata Devi, GSSS, Saigaloo; Ramesh Kumar, GMS, Naulakha; Narbada Devi Thakur, GMS, Bhargaon; and Shreshtha Gautam, GSSS, Sundernagar.
Speaking on the occasion, Balbir Bhardwaj said, “Education plays an important role in preparing children to make their valuable contribution to the nation. Teachers are the one who bring out the hidden talent of students.”
Rana said one major component of the teacher support programme of Rotary India Literacy Mission (RILM) was recognising outstanding teachers through the “Nation Builder Award”. It aims to award an outstanding teacher after a detailed evaluation process.
“The Rotary Foundation enables Rotarians to ensure that all people have sustainable access to basic education and literacy by involving the community to support programmes that strengthen the capacity of communities to provide basic education and literacy to all, increasing adult literacy in communities, working to reduce gender disparity in education and supporting studies for career-minded professionals related to basic education and literacy,” he said.
Akhilesh Bharti, executive secretary, Rotary Club of Chhoti Kashi Mandi, talking to TNR, said, “Rotary clubs celebrate the month of September as basic education and literacy month around the world. Rotary supports activities and training to improve education for all children as well as literacy for children and adults.”
Teachers played an important role in developing the younger generation, which enabled them in building a healthy and strong nation, thus rightly calling them “Nation Builders”, he added. Members present during the occasion included Anupama Singh, Jaspal Singh, Raminder Kaur, Prabodh Anand, Seema Sharma, Nitish Sharma and Vishal.
