Shimla: A major rockfall near a private hotel close to the Baddog bypass on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway 5 led to the closure of the bypass and the disruption of vehicular traffic from Kumarhatti towards Solan.
Vehicles were diverted from the Kumarhatti-Baddog-Solan road. The landslide occurred around 7:30 am.
No vehicle was passing through the area at that time. However, a traffic jam ensued as drivers found the road closed when they reached the spot.
Several drivers had to turn back and take the longer route via the Kumarhatti-Baddog-Solan road, resulting in a long queue. On receiving information about the rockfall, locals informed the police, who arrived at the spot.
The construction company engaged in the four-laning project was also notified about the landslide, and instructed to remove the rocks and restore traffic conditions to normal.
