Dharamsala: Rishika Sharma (28), a torchbearer of Indian classical music in the hills, clinched the top position in the singing contest held under the banner of the Dharamshala Spring Carnival, named ‘Voice of Dhauladhar.’
The competition featured three rounds, each challenging the participants with diverse musical genres. Rishika’s versatility and command over different styles propelled her to the forefront of the contest.
During the auditions, she showcased her vocal finesse with “Maaye ni meriye jamuaa di raahe chamba hai kitni ki dur (pahari)” and a soulful bhajan. In the first round, she chose to enthrall the audience with “Ghaalua majura oe dera tera dura oe,” while the second round, themed ‘Old is Gold,’ saw her rendering the timeless classic “Bedardi balma tujhko Mera man yaad karta hai.”
The last round, dedicated to Bollywood melodies, witnessed Rishika delivering a captivating rendition of “Deewani Mastani.” In a surprising turn, a tie among three contestants prompted her to choose the soul-stirring “Dil deewana bin sajna ke maane na.”
Rishika, a married woman and a music teacher, draws inspiration from her musical family. Her husband, Anik Sharma, is also a stage performer and vocalist. Her father, Rajeev Kumar Sharma, operates an academy where he imparts lessons in Indian classical music, both vocal and instrumental, with Rishika having honed her skills under his guidance.
