Mandi: Tragedy struck the Awasthi family on Monday as Mudit Awasthi (26), son of retired senior IAS officer Amitabh Awasthi, was found dead at his residence in Shimla. He took his own life by hanging himself from the ceiling fan earlier this afternoon.
Authorities are currently investigating the incident at the former IAS officer’s residence. Mudit was alone at home at the time, and no suicide note was found in the room.
Relatives are on their way. The police were alerted to the situation by a household servant.
Amitabh Awasthi, who resides in Brockhurst, Shimla, was appointed as the chairman of the Jal Upkar Commission by the Sukhu government.
Amitabh Awasthi retired last July but received an extension from the Congress government to serve as the commission’s chairman to address the water cess issues.
