Dharamshala: The Retired Defence Personnel Association has taken a proactive stance to secure one rank one pension (OROP) rights for reservists in the Army, Navy, and Air Force. As part of this initiative, the association is currently collecting data of such veterans, with many gathering in districts, including Kangra, and their affiliated centre in Dharamshala.
Brigadier SC Pathak, chairman of the Association, and Colonel Kartar Singh, the president, explained that previously, recruits in the Army, Navy, and Air Force were discharged 5-9-10 years after recruitment, termed as reservists. Despite the implementation of OROP, these reservists have not received its benefits.
The reservists range from those who participated in the two world wars to those aged 90 or above, with many being former soldiers brought into shelters in vehicles.
The Association plans to take the cases of these reservists to the Armed Forces Tribunal, striving to minimize expenses or resolve their cases for free through the tribunal. The Association commits full support to this effort.
On Friday, several reservists were brought to Dharamshala, some on foot and others in their sheltered vehicles, with the Association providing assistance to those unable to walk.
Pathak mentioned that the collected data will be prepared to address the OROP issues in the Tribunal, seeking relief for these veterans. The initiative also involves availing the services of tri-services for comprehensive support.
