Himachal Pradesh has reported a record 356 deaths this monsoon as compared to the last five years. Of these 180 people died in road accidents, 53 in landslides, 10 in floods and cloudbursts, 31 due to drowning, 2 in fires, 12 due to snake bites, 46 after falling from rooftops of houses and 16 due to reasons related but unknown.
Property damage
According to the State Disaster Management Authority, government and private property worth Rs 955.75 crore has been damaged due to heavy rains, landslides and floods.
PWD’s property worth Rs 568.07 crores has been destroyed this monsoon and losses to the hydel power department in terms of property stood at Rs 272.88 crores.
Agricultural produce on 2417 hectares of land across the state suffered losses of Rs 45.65 crores while various fruits grown on 2651 hectares suffered losses worth Rs 28.87 crores.
This monsoon 45 pucca and 103 kutcha houses suffered partial damages. 623 cow sheds, 16 shops and houses of 9 labourers were destroyed due to rains in the state.
