MANDI: In an incident of road rage, two drivers clashed over overtaking on the Mandi-Manali National Highway in Himachal Pradesh on Monday (January 1, 2023) night, both falling into Beas river during their scuffle and having been missing ever since.
The incident occurred around 9 pm when the driver of a Himachal-registered tempo traveller and the driver of a Punjab-registered Fortuner engaged in a heated argument over overtaking, their fight escalating into a violent altercation on the highway.
The scuffle between the drivers escalated to the point where both of them slipped into a gorge, eventually falling into the Beas in darkness. Passersby who gathered on the spot immediately alerted the police and the local administration as they saw both drivers falling into the Beas. Police, SDRF and local administration teams promptly arrived at the scene, initiating a search for both.
According to information obtained by TNR, a Fortuner and a tempo traveller were traveling from Manali to Punjab on the Chandigarh-Manali National Highway when the clash between the two drivers took place near Bindrabani, about 3 km away from Mandi town.
The Fortuner owner has been identified as Amandeep Singh (35), who was headed to Jalandhar with his wife and son after celebrating New Year in Manali. The driver of the tourist taxi is reportedly Gangaram from Karsog in Mandi district.
Inspector Sakini Kapoor, in-charge of the Sadar police station in Mandi, said the search for the duo has been going on since last evening, but no clues had been found yet. The SDRF team found a blood-soaked shoe and a mobile phone lying near the Beas. The search operation had to be halted due to darkness and was resumed in the morning.
