Protest over unfilled posts of teachers at remote Kufri school in Mandi’s Drang, parents warn of roadblock if action not taken
MANDI: A protest was held at the Government Senior Secondary School at Kufri, located in remote Doodha area of Drang Assembly constituency in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh, over the state government’s inability to fill eight posts of teachers lying vacant for a long time.
The protest was led by District Council member Kushal Bhardwaj, SMC president OP Thakur and the village panchayat vice-president and a large number of parents too participated in it.
Thakur criticised the state government for its failure to address the staffing issue despite repeated requests and proposals sent from the panchayat. He said the lack of staff was severely impacting the education of students. He expressed gratitude to Kushal Bhardwaj for joining their protest.
Non-teaching posts vacant too
Thakur warned the government of intensifying their protest if the issue was not resolved at the earliest.
Bhardwaj expressed his dismay over the vacancies at the remote school where not only were eight teaching positions in subjects such as history, chemistry, English, political science, Hindi, economics and physics unfilled, but there were also vacancies for senior assistants and office clerks.
Bhardwaj urged Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Education Minister Rohit Thakur to take immediate action to resolve the issue, stressing the negative impact on students’ future.
Parents too participate in protest
A large number of parents, including Indra Devi, Sunila Devi, Sunita Devi, Kirana Devi, Mansa Devi, Anjali Rana, Kamlesh Kumari, Anjana Devi, Lata Devi, Deepa, Manju, Dali, Singh, Hem Singh and Devi Singh, participated in the protest. They warned that if their demands were not met promptly, they would soon organise a roadblock.
