Govt official submits travel, board & lodging bill of Rs 28,000 for attending the meeting
A senior bureaucrat in Himachal Pradesh has been hogging the limelight recently for submitting a bill for travel, board and lodging expenses for attending a proposed meeting of the Gaddi and Gurjar Community Board that had got cancelled.
It has become quite a ticklish issued for the Tribal Welfare Department to whom the senior officer submitted the bill of Rs 28,000.
CM was supposed to chair the meeting The meeting was scheduled to be held on July 14 and to be chaired by the Chief Minister and attended by top level officials of the state.
However, the meeting was cancelled due to heavy rainfall and landslides that ravaged Kangra valley, resulting in loss of several lives on July 12.
The government communique on the cancellation was sent on July 12 but apparently reached some officials only on July 13 as most officials were involved in rescue operations.
Bureaucrat stayed in private hotel The bureaucrat in question went on to travel from Shimla to Dharamshala for the meeting and chose to stay in a private hotel for three days instead of opting for the circuit house or government guest house.
None in the department were aware of this until the bill was presented. The issue gains prominence since it comes at a time when the state is already reeling under a massive Rs 60,000 crore debt.
