SHIMLA: All India Congress Committee general secretary and senior leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra will tour rain-battered areas of Himachal Pradesh on September 12 and 13.The Congress general secretary will visit the flood and natural disaster-affected districts of Himachal like Manali, Kullu, Mandi, Shimla, Solan etc. on September 12 and 13 and take stock of the situation and damage.
She will also review relief and reconstruction works. During the visit, she will meet the people of Himachal and share the problems arising from the disaster. Priyanka, who had canvassed extensively in Himachal in the run-up to the 2022 Assembly elections that the Congress won, would meet the disaster victims to “share their sorrows and pain”, a party leader said. She is learnt to have tried to visit Himachal thrice, but her programme was cancelled each time due to bad weather and a red alert for heavy rain.
Priyanka was scheduled to reach Solan on August 21. Her security and support team had reached Solan on August 20. She was supposed to leave from Delhi, but due to the red alert of rain on August 21, she had to cancel her programme. Now, her plan to visit Himachal has been finalised. She will come to the state and inspect the damage caused by heavy rains and cloudbursts and meet the affected people.
The Congress leader owns a house at Charabra near Shimla. She keeps coming to Himachal from time to time to stay at her house along with her mother and former Congress president Sonia Gandhi.
