Party’s state in-charge Rajeev Shukla to attend CLP meeting in Shimla

SHIMLA: With Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu holding discussions with Congress national general secretary Priyanka Gandhi during his visit to New Delhi on Monday (February 12, 2024), the party is expected to disclose the name of its nominee for the Rajya Sabha seat from the state soon.
The Chief Minister’s visit to Delhi signalled a crucial deliberation on the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections as he held detailed discussions with Priyanka Gandhi. Sources close to the developments said the intricacies related to the Rajya Sabha candidature were discussed during the meeting.
In light of these discussions, party insiders disclosed that the Congress Legislature Party meeting, scheduled for Tuesday in Shimla, might witness the formal declaration of the party’s chosen candidate. Congress state in-charge Rajeev Shukla is expected to travel to Shimla to participate in the crucial meeting.
The names of notable figures such as Sonia Gandhi, Priyanka Gandhi, Ajay Maken and Anand Sharma have surfaced as potential contenders for the coveted Rajya Sabha seat from Himachal Pradesh.
Addressing the media in Delhi, Chief Minister Sukhu said he would go by the directives of the party’s high command. He affirmed, “Whoever the high command decides as the candidate for Rajya Sabha, we will ensure his or her victory.”
The Chief Minister said that the decision regarding Priyanka Gandhi’s candidature rested solely with her.
Sukhu affirmed his commitment to steering the state forward, citing the budget that he would present in the Assembly on February 17. In response to the farmers’ agitation in New Delhi, he urged the Central Government to heed the demands of the agrarian community, assuring that the concerns of Himachal Pradesh’s farmers would be duly considered.
About the parliamentary polls, he said, “Those with the potential to secure victory in the Lok Sabha elections will be nominated as candidates.”
