President Ram Nath Kovind arrives in Shimla

President Ram Nath Kovind arrived in Shimla on Thursday, on a four-day visit to the state. The President is a special invitee of Himachal, which is celebrating its golden jubilee of full statehood. Governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar, Chief Minister Jairam Thakur and Speaker Vipin Singh Parmar were among those who welcomed him at the Annandale helipad.

President to address special session of Assembly on Friday

The President’s convoy went directly to the Oberoi Cecil Hotel in Chaura Maidan, where he will stay during the visit. He will address the special session of the Himachal assembly on Friday, for which more than 73 former and sitting MLAs have given their consent to attend. Before Kovind, former Presidents APJ Abdul Kalam and Pranab Mukherjee have also addressed special sessions of the Himachal legislative assembly. The golden jubilee celebrations for which the state government has made elaborate plans will be held throughout the year.

Police deployment 

In view of the President’s visit, police have been deployed in every corner of Shimla. There has also been  constant and strict checking due to which the movement of people has been affected. Due to VVIP duty of administrative officers, work of employees in offices was also affected on Thursday.
