President Droupadi Murmu is scheduled to visit Himachal Pradesh capital Shimla once again this year for her annual summer sojourn.
According to the tentative schedule issued by the Rashtrapati Bhavan, President Murmu is expected to be in Shimla from April 30 to May 5 (2024), though the itinerary remains subject to change.
During her stay, President Murmu will be accommodated at her official residence, The Retreat, nestled in the picturesque surroundings of Chharabra. The visit will also encompass interactions with the intellectual fraternity of Shimla, underscoring the President’s commitment to engaging with diverse communities across the nation. In anticipation of her arrival, the state government has commenced preparations.
Given the enforcement of the model code of conduct in view of the Lok Sabha elections, the itinerary for the visit will be relatively subdued, with limited official engagements. Nevertheless, the General Administration Department has been tasked with undertaking requisite arrangements to facilitate the President’s visit.
President Murmu had visited Shimla last year as well from April 18 to April 21, the occasion being her inaugural journey to the hill station. During her maiden visit, a reception was organised in her honour at Raj Bhavan.
An ‘At Home’ event was hosted at the President’s residence in Chharabra on April 20, providing an opportunity for dignitaries and esteemed guests to interact with President Murmu in an informal setting. The President bid adieu to Shimla and returned to the national capital on April 21, concluding her memorable visit.
