Pre Paragliding World Cup Kicks Off in Bir Billing Valley, 105 Pilots from 32 Countries Competing

Pre Paragliding World Cup Begins in Himachal’s Bir Billing Valley

The Pre Paragliding World Cup has officially started in the Bir Billing Valley of Kangra district, Himachal Pradesh, on Saturday, and will continue until November 9. The event was inaugurated by RS Bali, Chairman of the Tourism Department, with the Chief Parliamentary Secretary Kishori Lal attending as a special guest. A ceremonial Havan was performed, and all participants were honored with garlands during the opening ceremony.

According to Anurag Sharma, President of the Billing Paragliding Association (BPA), a total of 148 pilots from 32 countries applied for the competition, with 105 pilots being shortlisted. Comprehensive safety and rescue measures have been arranged to ensure the smooth conduct of the event, including the presence of helicopters at the venue. Gorind, President of the world governing body PWCA, visited the take-off and landing points along with FAI officials to issue necessary guidelines.

Cultural Programs and Prizes

During the competition, cultural programs showcasing Himachal’s rich heritage will be held daily at the landing site in Chougan. The closing ceremony, scheduled for November 9, will see Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu honoring the winners.

The competition offers attractive prize money for the winners. In the women’s category, the first-place participant will receive €2,222, the second €1,777, and the third €1,111. Overall winners will also receive substantial rewards, with €3,333 for first place, €2,777 for second, and €2,222 for third.

Second World Cup in the Valley

This is the second time that the Bir Billing Valley is hosting a world-class paragliding event. The last World Cup took place here in 2015. Known for its favorable weather conditions and adventure sports, Bir Billing is expected to receive a significant boost in tourism from this prestigious event.
