CHAMBA: In the tribal sub-district of Pangi in Chamba district, incessant snowfall has plunged nearly half a dozen villages into darkness. The aftermath of heavy snow has led to the shutdown of 15 transformers in the region.
As a result, approximately 150 villages are grappling with power outages, creating an aura of darkness in the affected areas.
Rajiv Thakur, Executive Engineer of the Electricity Board Circle in Dalhousie, informed that the snowfall, which began on Tuesday afternoon and continued till Wednesday morning, impacted nearly 150 transformers in the Chamba district.
While the electricity supply was disrupted in numerous villages, swift action has been taken to restore 135 transformers by Wednesday evening.
Thakur emphasized that the Electricity Board had proactively taken measures ahead of the winter season, ensuring timely arrangements of essential equipment like electricity poles, conductors, and transformers in snow-prone areas of Chamba district. This strategic approach allows prompt restoration of electricity in case of any disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.
The Electricity Board continues to monitor the situation closely and is committed to swiftly addressing any further power supply challenges arising due to winter weather conditions.
