Power Conclave in Shimla focuses on making Himachal leader in renewable energy

Shimla: The 5th Edition of the Power Conclave, organised by the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII), Himachal Pradesh, took place on Thursday (October 4, 2024) at Hotel Holiday Home in Shimla. With the theme “Harnessing the Green Potential for a Sustainable Future”, the conclave focused on positioning Himachal Pradesh as a leader in renewable energy.
The event saw the presence of Rakesh Kanwar, Secretary to the Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh and Secretary for Multi-Purpose Projects, Power and Non-Conventional Energy Sources, as the chief guest.
In his address, Kanwar highlighted the state’s commitment to advancing green energy, particularly through hydroelectric and solar power projects and outlined the potential of new innovations like pump storage to enhance energy production.

“We are fully committed to promoting green energy and addressing the challenges faced by the industry. Himachal Pradesh, with its vast natural resources, has immense potential to lead in renewable energy. We are particularly focusing on new avenues such as pump storage to make the state a hub for sustainable power,” said Kanwar.
Manoj Tripathi, Chairman of the Bhakra Beas Management Board, emphasised the role of pump storage projects in boosting national renewable energy goals, noting, “Our commitment to net zero emissions is strong, and we aim to contribute significantly towards the nation’s renewable energy capacity.”
Navesh Narula, Chairman of CII Himachal Pradesh, stressed the importance of balancing development with environmental conservation, acknowledging that despite the state’s success in hydropower, a vast potential remains untapped.
“CII will continue to foster collaboration among industry stakeholders to address the pressing challenges in the renewable energy sector,” he said.
The conclave saw participation from over 100 industry leaders, hydropower producers and senior government officials, marking it as a key event in promoting sustainable energy solutions for Himachal Pradesh’s future.
