Congress in Himachal Pradesh is a divided house over the issue of the Uniform Civil Code which has been raked up by the Prime Minister in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
The political atmosphere in Himachal has also heated up, especially with two Cabinet ministers adopting different postures on the issue of UCC and AICC spokesperson and Himachal Congress former president Kuldeep Rathore terming it politics of communal polarisation.
While PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh voiced his support for UCC, saying that anything that is in the interest of the country is welcome, another Cabinet minister Chandra Kumar has expressed his displeasure with the PM’s move.
Theog MLA Rathore, while avoiding making a direct comment on the issue, said that an attempt is being made to promote communal polarisation before the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and he condemns such an attempt.
He said that the party parliamentary board would decide on the course of action on this issue, and he would follow suit.
